Little League

Max is finishing up his baseball season playing for the Cardinals in the Morton Youth Baseball league.  He's really enjoyed playing this year and has been hitting the ball well and likes playing shortstop.   He also told me at the beginning of the year that he wanted to pitch this year and has gotten to do that a few times which he really likes although the last time he pitched he got a bloody nose from someone sliding into him while he was making a play at home plate, so he had to be taken out of the game and hadn't even pitched a whole inning.    Otherwise a fun season of baseball comes to an end.

Summer Dance Party

I didn't know what to expect, having been to a dance party exactly 0 times in my life.   Oh sure I've been to weddings with dancing, but I can't remember ever going to a dance party.  Partly that has to do with attending Peoria Christian School and Wheaton College both of which strictly forbid any type of dancing.  The one time I did attempt to dance at our high school Spring Banquet on the riverboat I was promptly suspended for a few days.  So needless to say I'm not the world's greatest dancer but Seth and Crystal know how to throw one fun summer dance party.  DJ Jazzy Seth kept the grooves flowing while the ladies started the dance party off with an exhibition from their Wednesday night dance class.  This was great because I had been trying to get Cat to show me some moves for weeks and always getting shot down.   The dancing spread throughout and before you know it we had a full on dance party.  So here are the pictures of the night, but to really get into the spirit of the dance party I've embedded a song for you to listen to while you look at the pictures, so you can fully capture the mood...because....

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

Boys Weekend

It wasn't planned but it turned it to really great weekend with my boys.   Delaney was in Galena for a birthday party and then Catherine came down with flu and was basically in bed from Friday night until Monday morning.   So, it was just Max, Hayes and me fending for ourselves.   We started out at Safety Town with the boys riding their bicycles around the streets and sidewalks.   Max wanted to see the new Mission Impossible movies so we were able to watch that after going to bed.   On Sunday Max and I started the day off serving the homeless breakfast at church which gets us up early but Max doesn't seem to mind and does a great job serving food and cleaning up.   It was also a perfect day for the boys to play in the fountain at the riverfront in downtown Peoria.   Of course it wouldn't be complete without some ice cream so we biked up to Dudley's on Sheridan and enjoyed some soft serve.  Of course since we went to the fountain and their were no girls telling us what to do, it was a bath and shower free weekend...my favorite kind.

Revenge of the Nerds (Party Edition)

Us nerds got together with our nerd friends for a funtastic nerd party.   Michael and David went all out with the Revenge of the Nerds theme and Catherine and I had a great time.   What's truly sad is I didn't even have to doing in shopping for an outfit, everything is straight out of my closet, just had to add tape to the glasses.

Start to Summer

Nothing like a pool party to kick off your summer right.  Will and Dana were great hosts and they have the one thing necessary for a great pool party, they have a pool.  Hayes of course only spent about two minutes in the pool and most of that time was spent screaming, which is odd since he loved the Morton pool the day before.   Luckily they he was happy riding his little car.

Fondulac Farm Park

Hayes' field trip to the Fondulac Farm Park started out with the handing out of ice cream cones.  Hayes and each of his classmates each got a cone filled with animal feed.  The adults quickly realized that 2 year olds don't realize that it's for the animals but not before some feed was eaten.  Catherine and I split the field trip because she was still working when it started, so Hayes and I got through most of the feeding without her.  He fed the goats, the pigs, the geese, the sheep, the chickens and the horses.  He tried to feed the rabbits but they went  in their hutch and wouldn't come out.  Catherine came and then I went to work, so I'm not sure what they did after I left, they were out of food so maybe they just went and looked at the animals while the animals gave them evil stares because they didn't have any food.
